What Is The Meaning Of Life

2

What gives our lives meaning? It certainly isn’t having lots of money, because no amount of money can buy you a feeling of significance. Buying new and nice things brings temporary excitement that quickly fades, forcing us to go on looking for the next best thrill. Being famous, attractive, or successful puts us in the spotlight for a moment, but at the end of the day that empty void inside still stirs. Why? Because we were created to have purpose and meaning in life, and the more experiences we have in life, the more deeply we feel the need to discover that meaning.

There is only one purpose of this life. The meaning of life is to glorify and please God. There are many other significant reasons why we were created as well, but they are all rooted in glorifying and pleasing The Lord. While God has a uniquely different plan for each of our lives, we all share this primary purpose.

The great author and pastor AW Tozer said “God is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful that He can, without anything other than Himself, meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature is.”

Let me explain what this means and why you should want to glorify and please God.

God’s standard is sinless perfection and unless we can live a life without sin we will fail. God tells us that our sin separates us from Him. God loves us and therefore He sent His son Jesus Christ to save us from the consequences of our sin. The Bible clearly says that the penalty of our sin is death which means we deserve life spent in hell. But there is hope. Jesus lived a perfect life without sin and then died on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin with His blood. Anyone who puts their trust in Jesus Christ and and his saving work for us on the cross (instead of believing in their own good works to save them) will be kept from the eternal consequence of their sin and a life in hell.

If you have given your life to God and believe that Jesus Christ is your savior then you have taken the first step to glorifying God with your life. If you live your life to please God and obey Him then you can take all the wonderful things you have in your life and use them to please The Lord.

God is deeply pleased when we obey Him and seek after Him. Reading His Word (The Bible) helps us understand how God wants us to live and how to please Him with what we say and do. Our desire should be to bring glory to His name with our every action.

These truths make up the meaning of life. They are our only source of true satisfaction and purpose while we are alive in this world.

You are so right. Without Christ, life is meaningless and no amount of money, fame, or power will ever change that truth. Great post!!!
